Pipelines to carry sewage to Tapia plant
date Thursday, June 22, 1972
location Malibu
In a letter to the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District, Pepperdine proposed running two pipelines through Malibu Canyon to the Tapia water treatment facility near Piuma Road, as a potential solution to its ongoing sewage problem ahead of the planned September opening of the Malibu campus. One pipe would carry sewage to the plant, and the other would carry reclaimed water back to campus to be used for irrigation. The Graphic quotes the plant's manager as saying that they had plenty of capacity to accommodate the influx of sewage from Malibu. Piping was proposed as a more pragmatic solution than trucking the sewage, which had previously been considered.1
