First volleyball game of the season

Men's volleyball opened its 1972-1973 season with a match against LA Valley College that ended in a 2-2 tie, cut short to make way for the basketball game scheduled directly after. Junior Marv Dunphy (credited by The Graphic as Dumphy)1 was making his debut as a Wave after transferring from Pierce College, where he had been team captain.2
Dunphy would go on to be the long-time coach of Pepperdine men's volleyball and a Waves legend of the first order.
The game took place at Veteran's Memorial Auditorium in Culver City, the Waves' home court while Firestone Fieldhouse was under construction.3
