Facing more housing applications than expected, Malibu provost Jerry Hudson ordered two more dormitories constructed on the Malibu campus. Estimates of residential enrollment for the first semester on the new Malibu campus jumped 50-90% (from 500 to 750-950) in the month before the decision. Each dorm was expected to take four months to build, so these two would not be completed in time for the first semester. Ten other dorms, each with fifty beds, were already under construction and were about halfway finished.1
