Lowry wins teetotalers' prize

Sophomore Randy Lowry won first place in a speech contest hosted by the Women's Christian Temperance Union. His victory earned him a $150 prize and a trip to Miami in September for the nationals of collegiate oratory.1

Lowry would serve as president of the new student government organization on the Malibu campus in the fall of 1972. He later became a professor at the Pepperdine School of Law.
