The Graphic reported on the re-election of President Richard Nixon. The Republican incumbent won the electoral college in a historic 521-17 landslide over Democratic challenger George McGovern, who won only Massachusetts and DC.1 Pepperdine president William Banowsky had been a major supporter of Nixon's re-election in Southern California.

Nearly two years later, Nixon would resign in disgrace following investigations into his campaign's foul play at the Watergate complex.
