LA campus bookstore burgled

date Monday, October 2, 1972

location LA campus

The bookstore on Pepperdine's LA campus was broken into at 10:45pm. The suspects made away with $1600 in merchandise, including two IBM electric typewriters, an adding machine, and two cassette tape recorders. The burglars were spotted making their getaway, and security guards chased them behind Marilyn Hall (the girls' dorm), where they dumped the typewriters and adding machine to lighten their load.1

The incident was part of a string of crimes on the LA campus in 1972 causing a tightening of security protocols.
