First day of classes
date Tuesday, September 12, 1972
location Malibu
The fall term began on the Malibu campus,1 featuring a new interdisciplinary curriculum that had been designed for what would become Seaver College. The seventeen departments from the LA campus were lumped into six broad divisions: humanities, social science, natural science, communication, religion, and fine arts.2 The interdisciplinary nature of the curriculum was reinforced by the campus's master plan, as designed by William Pereira, with closely clustered buildings, a common laboratory, and small classrooms with only one lecture hall.3
Among the faculty responsible for planning the new curriculum were Jerry Hudson, James Smythe, and Tony Ash.4
