With most residential students moving to the Malibu campus for the fall term, it began to look like the dorms on the LA campus would be mostly empty. Marilyn Hall, a women's dorm capable of housing 200, was expected to host only 100 in the fall. Of three dorms for men with capacity for 175, exactly zero men had requested a room in two of them. Efforts were underway to renovate the dorms to make them more attractive, and some space was being given over to non-residential purposes such as study rooms, game rooms, lounges, etc.¹
