"Cagers" pulled from flight for joke
date Sunday, February 27, 1972
location Seattle?
Six members of Pepperdine's men's basketball team and coach Gary Colson were pulled from their Western Airlines flight after a stewardess heard one of the players joke about "taking the plane to Florida." The stewardess interpreted the joke as a threat to hijack the flight, and the plane, which was about to take off, was returned to the terminal, where it was met by police and FBI agents. The team caught the next flight out, arriving home about twelve hours later than scheduled.1
