The Malibu Times reported that a membership tea was held at 3pm. Coffee and tea were poured by Mrs. William Banowsky and Mrs. M. Norvell [sic] Young, the wives of the president and chancellor of Pepperdine, respectively.¹ President Banowsky was heavily involved in Southern California Republican politics, a fact that was not uncontroversial in the Pepperdine community.
